Christmas Activities!

Christmas Activities in Glasgow

Well, we might not have had any snow yet but we’re still getting into full festive swing at the Ambassador Hotel! Christmas is one of our favourite times of the year and Glasgow really comes into its own round about now. On November 19th the big light switch-on takes place, with locals turning out in their thousands to count down until the big moment – tickets are by ballot only though, and a little like gold dust, so we’ve got a top five of things to do if you’re in town over the next few weeks which won’t cost the earth and are easy to get involved with.

Dancing Baby Feet

If you’ve brought a wee one along with you on your trip, then head to the National Piping Centre on December 4th or 18th for a special festive edition of baby loves disco. Live Celtic music sets the soundtrack for the day, with Santa and his elves making appearance to get the party started – not an event to be missed!

Shopping in Style

Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s architectural creation, House for an Art Lover, sits just beyond the city centre and is worth a visit all year round but especially so as their annual Christmas Fayre takes residence on the 4th of December. A great place to go if you’re looking for a gift that’s a little special as you’ll find homemade fudge, handcrafted jewelry and arts and craft pieces all on sale.

Classic Cinema at GFT

The Glasgow Film Theatre is a true slice of art deco heaven. A visit to this movie theatre will have you feeling like you’ve stepped back in time a few years, and no more so than on a crisp winter evening and a screening of classics like It’s a Wonderful Life, which enjoys an outing each year. Take along a loved one and get all full of Christmas spirit in the front row.

City Views at the Lighthouse

To really appreciate the splendor of the city at this time of year, it’s best to get up high. One of the most-recommended places to take in the skyline is right at the top of multi-arts and business venue, The Lighthouse. Smack-bang in the city centre, you’ll be able to take Glasgow in in all its glory from the banks of the Clyde to the parks of the Southside and everything in between.

See in the New Year – Glasgow Style

If you’re still choosing how to bring in 2018 then Glasgow has you covered. Merchant Square and Ashton Lane both boast their own parties, or keep it PG with a family-friendly gathering at the Hard Rock Café. Now, after us – “ten, nine, eight, seven, six….!”
