Whisky Tours in Glasgow

A Glass of the Good Stuff

Ah, the nectar of the life. Or whisky, to you non-Scots! It’s one of the founding pillars of Scottish culture and a heritage we absolutely love to share with visitors to our fair land. While the majority of distilleries are based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, you can still get your fix during your stay in Glasgow. The Ambassador Hotel is ideally placed to access city centre locations or for getting out onto the open road if you’re interested in hiring a car and exploring beyond the city limits in search of our most treasured beverage.

Read on to find out our top picks for whisky experiences in and around Glasgow – cheers!

Clydeside Distillery

With sparkling views of the river following an impressive 10 million-pound renovation of a former pump house, the Clydeside Distillery is the jewel in the crown of this month’s recommendations. If you fancy a walk, then the location is a brisk one hour from our doorstep and, during a winter visit, the bitter Scottish winds will make the reward of a wee dram (small drink) at the end even sweeter. During a tour – starting from just £15 – you’ll discover the city’s fascinating relationship with whisky and the distillery’s own path to its forever home.

Whisky and Wallace

Tartan Tours Scotland arrange private tours for parties of up to six people and this one is not to be missed. Following the trail of major events in the life of William Wallace, you’ll visit Dumbarton Castle and the Wallace Monument, before rounding off the day with a tour at Auchentoshan Distillery and of course, sampling their goods!

Strathclyde Distillery

There aren’t too many cities in the world which can boast a working distillery in the city centre – but then Glasgow isn’t like other places. We know what’s important in life, and a good swally (drink) among friends built on shared heritage and love for the land is pretty near the top of our list. Strathclyde is now part of the Chivas Brothers brand and, amazingly, often goes unnoticed by Sunday strollers through Glasgow Green, whose banks the distillery lies opposite!

DIY Tour

This one’s a little off the wall but we reckon there’s no better way to get acquainted with the tradition of whisky drinking than to get out for a drink of the good stuff in the local bars and pubs. Try the Ben Nevis for old school Scottish charm, Bon Accord to take your pick from over 300 whiskies, or Dram in the West End for a great selection of malts as well a varied program of entertainment including comedy, quiz nights and live music.

Visit Loch Lomond

Why not venture a bit further afield to Loch Lomond which is only a 30 minute drive away? The spellbinding loch runs through the heart of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, which is encompassed by delightful villages, stunning countryside, impressive peaks and some seriously awesome activities!

West End Festival

Glasgow welcomes The West End Festival every summer and this year is even bigger and better than ever. This mammoth cultural event sees the trendy West End awash with a diverse programme of entertainment.
