26 May Derek- Meet Our New Manager!
Derek – Meet Our New Manager!
In March 2019, we welcomed Derek to the Ambassador Hotel line-up and we’ve got to say, it was a really fantastic decision we made getting him on board! Derek started off his career working on reception and also on bar duties before becoming front of house manager for another hotel. He has a genuine talent for front of house and his customer service approach is second to none as he has a natural rapport with our guests. We are lucky to have him as our hotel manager as he’s got what it takes to make your stay with us the best experience ever as his passion for the job shines through. Nip into reception to pick his brains about local knowledge and you’ll be really glad you did! We anticipate brilliant stuff from Derek in the months and years ahead.
We took the time to catch up with him for a natter this month, so read on to find out what floats his boat!
Hey Derek, how are you today? – I’m Grand. Enjoying the beautiful weather in Glasgow at the moment.
How long have you worked at The Ambassador Hotel? – I came on board in March 2019 after an 8 year career working Front Of House for the Millenium Hotel.
Why did you decide on a career in hospitality? – It was something I fell into. I got a part time job in a hotel working on reception and helping in the bar while I was at university. I loved it so decided to pursue a full time career in hospitality once I finished University
So, what’s your favourite part of being Manager at the Ambassador Hotel? – Meeting people. Chatting to our guests and listening to their experiences. I love getting to know the people and their culture. During my chats I also find out some things/hidden gems about Glasgow that I didn’t know which broadens my horizons.
Can you describe your daily tasks? – I oversee our team of cleaners, process our reservations and the most important, deal with our guests needs.
What are you most passionate about? – Delivering a high level of customer service. I take a pride in helping our guests make the most of their stay
What do you do in your free time? – I’m a keen football supporter (I wont divulge which team lol) and I enjoy exploring Scotland on my time off especially a hike up Ben Lomond.
What’s your absolute must-see for visitors to the city? – Botanical Gardens situated opposite the hotel especially if its a nice day. The grounds are very popular with the locals.
What does excellent guest service mean to you?– Excellent Guests service to me means making sure the guest leaves the hotel with a smile and fond memories of their time at the hotel and of Glasgow.
